Designing Computer practical case in accountancy
Designing
computer practical work in accounting involves integrating software tools and
practical scenarios that mirror real-world accounting tasks.
As a teacher i think, To develop computer practical work in accountancy, we have to utilize accounting software and spreadsheet programs. Students can practice recording transactions, creating financial statements, and analyzing data using these tools. It's also helpful to provide hands-on exercises and assignments that require students to use accounting software to perform tasks such as journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial analysis. This allows students to gain proficiency in using technology in the context of accountancy.
Types of Accounting software's
In this modern world and mostly applicable accounting software in Bhutan is Talley software.
Assessment Tools for computer practical in accounting
To access computer practical in accounting I think rating scale will be appropriate because we can give rubrics to the students and let them to know whare are the requirements that students have to fulfill. However by looking at the title case study and practical in accounting its more applicable if we can use marking criteria with module answer and analytical rubrics because since its more of practical we need module answer and marking scheme to dividing the weightage and since its case analytical rubrics is also applicable.

Importance and Types of accountancy case
Importance of Accountancy case
Accountancy cases are real-world scenarios or situations that simulate the challenges and complexities accountants may face in their profession. As i teacher its importance to teach case studies on accountancy because;
1. Application of knowledge: we want our students to apply their knowledge in real field and to make sure that what our students are able to apply their theoretical knowledge in the real field.
2. Critical thinking and problem-solving: Accountancy cases require students to analyze complex financial information, identify issues or discrepancies, and develop solutions. This promotes critical thinking skills and enhances their ability to solve problems, which are crucial skills in the field of accountancy.
3. Decision-making skills: Accountancy cases often involve making decisions based on financial data and analysis. By working through these cases, students can develop their decision-making skills and learn to make informed choices in a professional accounting context.
Types of Accountancy case
Now, let's talk about the types of accountancy cases. There are various types which are given below. Those case are the one which is more applicable in Bhutanese context and which are related to application of practical knowledge.
1. Financial statement analysis cases: These cases involve analyzing financial statements to assess the financial health and performance of a company. Students may be required to interpret financial ratios, identify trends, and make recommendations based on their analysis.
2. Audit cases: These cases simulate the process of auditing financial statements. Students may be asked to identify risks, evaluate internal controls, and perform substantive procedures to detect errors or fraud.
3. Taxation cases: These cases focus on tax-related issues. Students may be required to analyze tax laws, calculate tax liabilities, and provide advice on tax planning strategies.
Competency Based Items
As I mentioned in importance of accountancy its also importance to develop competency based questions because not only case study even competency based question can also helps to develop creative, analyzing and critical thinking in the students minds. However what i feel is that its best way to design one case and develop competency question on that case so that students can bale to understand both and apply together. For that i think rating scale will be best assessment tools because it compromised with two different are the case study and competency based items. Therefore i developed one case study with competency question.
Example of case study and Competency based question.
Imagine that you are a business entrepreneur with a chain of resorts and a furniture shop in Thimphu. You appointed Mr. Kinley as the manager of the furniture shop, responsible for handling all cash and bank transactions. However, you've recently heard rumors that Kinley has been spending recklessly and frequently seen at pubs and drayangs. Suspecting his source of income, you decided to inspect the cash book records. Upon comparison with the bank statement, you discovered several forged entries where Kinley falsely recorded deposits that were never actually made. It became apparent that he manipulated the cash book and used the funds for personal purposes.
Questions
1. How would you identify and investigate discrepancies between the office records and the bank statement?
2.What actions would you take if you suspect an employee is misusing company funds for personal gain?
3.How would you implement internal controls to prevent fraudulent activities and ensure accurate recording of cash and bank transactions?
4. How would you address the issue with Mr. Kinley's spending habits and ensure the smooth operation of the furniture shop in your absence?
